Saturday was a very big day for Olivia. Just 1 week after being born, she had her UAP (Umbilical Artery Pressure) monitor removed from her belly button, her IV removed and TPN (supplemental nutrition) stopped, and her feedings increased to 5 mL per hour.
On Tuesday she started receiving breast milk at a rate of .5 mL/hour, and was given the TPN to provide extra nutrients. So in just 4.5 days she has increased the amount of breast milk she is receiving by 10 times and no longer needs more nutrients than the milk provides! Now, she is only receiving breast milk! 5 mL/hour is the most they will give her right now, so if she does well with that amount, they will start adding some fortifier to the milk to increase the calories. At this rate, she will be gaining weight in no time!
She seems much more comfortable, now that she has less tubes in her little body. They are hoping to remove the tubes from her nose in just a few days!
It seems like all of these changes are happening so fast, it is a little scary. We are constantly amazed at how strong she is. All of the nurses and doctors say she is doing fantastic and they couldn't be happier with her progress, which makes all of this a little easier to handle!

PS. Happy Easter!
