Smiling!

March 28, 2008 - Smiling (and then pooping!)

Olivia is still doing well. The nurses have been working hard to figure out which type of breathing machine helps her the most. They are trying to help her be as comfortable as possible while still getting as much help as possible so that her heart doesn't get too tired. Yesterday she was on the bubble machine again, but today she was back on the small oxygen machine. As she grows and her heart gets stronger, she will be able to breathe on her own. Hopefully that won't be too far in the future. When she was weighed earlier this evening she weighed 1 lb 15 oz, which is back to her original birth weight! She was spitting up a little today, so they are monitoring her feedings and have stopped the fortifier to see if that helps her keep the milk down a little better. The nurse assured us that it is normal for babies this small to have some feeding issues and that she is still doing very well overall.

When we first got to the hospital tonight, Olivia was smiling a lot! She is still too young to smile intentionally, so I told Howie that she must be pooping and I was right! Her smile is so cute and she opens her eyes a lot when she smiles, which we like. Her eyes are still blue!
